building for the next stage

Well after all the excitement of Sue and Donna’s ordination at the weekend it is back to work with lots to do. I and the staff team are away for three days working on the next stage of Springfield. This is mainly to look at the areas that we identified on our church leaders away day earlier this year as key areas.

These areas included our cell groups, growing and encouraging new and existing leaders, river ministries and our young adults ministry. We’ve added on the wider church due to the bid we won recently and the request by the Fresh Expressions team for us to run and host one of their courses.

Our aim is to ensure that we have some concrete steps to take and build these ministries. Some (such as the river ministries) are more about how we can support people in Springfield to grow new ministries – e.g the new scrabble ministry at Abbeyfield (did you know that we had one?!?).

Hope later to share some of the things that we have been discussing. There are some great ideas that the team have come up with that will help the Church in the next stage of our life together. It’s been sad that our wardens Bill and Jean couldn’t be here with us but lovely that our new warden Timmy could.

Part of our time away is building the staff team as a group. This is especially important now that we don’t have a church centre. So in the evenings we have been playing games and relaxing together. Last night was song night. One of my favorites (on nigels phone) was the following Tom Lebrer classic – hope you enjoy it!
